Ok...so it's 85 degrees, sunny, and a Saturday. At 7:30am what are you doing?
For over 300 people in Boston, the answer was "Drive out to Waltham to attend SharePoint Saturday!"
For those who aren't familiar, SharePoint Saturday is a full day of one-hour sessions about anything and everything SharePoint by some of the most knowledgeable people and best speakers in the field.
It was a very educational day, full of really inspiring stuff like how to customize the 2010 ribbon and best practices for the ECM (Enterprise Content Management) lifecycle using SharePoint. It was an honor to be able to lead a session on determining whether Project Desktop, Project Server, or plain ol' SharePoint is the best option for your project management on the 2010 platform.
Microsoft sells three applications positioned to help you manage your projects: Project Desktop, Project Server, and SharePoint (Team Site w/ Task List). While there is a lot of powerful integration between their products, particularly Office, there are none that duplicate the same purpose. Choosing between Publisher or Word as the platform for mass-designing brochures is not a common dilemma.
I started with some slides supplied by Microsoft that intend to answer this riddle with the message "There is no one-size-fits-all approach to Project Management." I explained that this answer only reinforces the question.
To get a definitive answer to “Which To Choose When And Why”, take a look at my slides for this event.
For the majority of you who couldn't make SharePoint Saturday, watch this space for registration details to attend the upcoming Lunch & Learn webcast in which the session will be delivered & recorded for posterity.
