What’s New in pmPoint 9.5: Color Picker for Charts

May-232011

The new Custom X Fields style feature introduced in pmPoint 9.5 means BrightWork Reporter Charts and the List Chart View web part now include the ability to assign a color to a value returned by a chart in Text; Choice; User; Lookup; and Boolean columns.

You can try this out on our TrialZone Sample site. If you don’t already have login details, you can register here to get them.

For example, many BrightWork lists include Red |Yellow | Green columns. Previously, the colors assigned to these values depended on the selected theme - now you can ensure that they match. We would like to thank our friend and customer Matt Kennedy of Children's Hospital Boston for asking for this feature.

To start using this feature, select Customize Reporter Settings on the web part menu. You can see in the image below that the chart colors do not match the values.

This feature is only available when Categorization is enabled for the X-Axis and only one Y axis is specified.

This makes the Custom X-Field option available at the bottom of the Reporter Settings page. You simply select Use Custom Styles and map your values to your desired colors.

Click Show More Value and Color Options to add a line to to the color picker.

You don’t have to specify a colour for every value, for example you might just specify that Late = Red and leave the rest. You can also map empty strings (i.e. columns where no value has been specified or selected) using the value (no value).

Note – you will have to manually enter the values so to make things easier for yourself we suggest that you have the relevant list column open in another tab so that you can easily copy and paste the values. This will also help you to ensure that the values match exactly.

The chart will display with the values you specified.
