Manage Projects on SharePoint

Keeping on Task

Aug-52011

As I continue poke around my BrightWork sandbox, I can quickly see that everything I need to manage a project is right there. And as many of you probably know, keeping track of work can sometimes be a difficult task, especially if you are being pulled in ten different directions, working on multiple projects simultaneously and then there are your everyday tasks. Sometimes people can get so caught up in one thing or another that they leave other tasks (which are just as important!) sitting there to collect dust. Do not fear any longer. Of the many reports available from BrightWork, one is the My Work report, which sounds basic I know, but it definitely can benefit the entire project team.

As simple as the report sounds, this is still one report that I would definitely bookmark right away. Easily accessible, the report shows all work items owned by you. Never again will you forget which tasks are assigned to you. Even if you’re not a project manager this is great because you can easily see what is you have coming up or what you haven’t done yet. And remember it’s a collaborative site, so the whole team can see your progress if they want to… maybe that’s a little extra motivation to get your work done built right in!

This report makes life incredibly easy for the project manager as well. Once they plan a project and assign the work, it is simple to notify the entire team of their tasks. Project managers can set alerts or email notifications so that all team members know exactly what they have to, so they can plan accordingly. The report also allows team members to update to progress of their assigned work (assuming they have done the work) so project managers have the most up to date project information which will allow them to track and re-plan the project. Project managers can use My Work reports to see how work is going, freeing up time for team members to do good work on the project that would otherwise be spent preparing the status reports manually.
